Thank you for applying Copenhagen Sleep- and Snoring clinic, where we have specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of snoring and associated Sleep Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD) such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) and Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS). These are all conditions where a narrowing of the upper airway during sleep results in compromised breathing and sleep quality with daytime sleepiness as one of several complaints.

We offer investigation by ApneaGraph, an automated analyzing data logging unit giving exact information of breathing stops, their number, type and duration as well as oxygen saturation, heart rate and body position during sleep. Furthermore, we obtain exact information regarding the site of pharyngeal narrowing during snoring and eventual breathing stops. This information is considered being mandatory in the preoperative evaluation, as up to 1/4 of the patients are not suitable for surgical treatment (due to narrowing in the lower parts of the pharynx). This investigation is in daily use in several hospitals.

Surgical treatment is carried out by SOMNUS Radio Frequency Thermal Ablation system (RFel) - utilizing frictional heat from low frequency radio waves to free water molecules (85% of the tissue consists of water) from their allocations, and allows it in a few weeks, to be transported away by the local blood vessels.

Such a removal of water molecules induces tissue shrinkage and (consequently) opening of the pharyngeal lumen as desired, at the site of obstruction (snoring). This treatment developed at Stanford University, California, USA, is well documented, and has several obvious advantages compared to other procedures carried out today.
